Description
Self Destructo Records announces the first ever vinyl release of Against The Grains
ground breaking second album: Motor City Speed Rock. Since forming in 2009, Against
The Grain has harnessed and utilized the DIY ethic that is pivotal in the underground music
scene to make their mark as a force thats to be acknowledged in the heavy music/punk
rock community. Born in the predominantly blue collar city of Detroit, Against The Grain
cut their teeth by playing relentlessly throughout their hometown and surrounding its states,
resulting in catching the attention of notable Detroit underground icon Tesco Vee (The
Meatmen, Touch & Go Records) who utilized his network and experience and took them
under his wing to get their name out further into the world of underground music. Playing
100+ shows a year since their inception, theyve been invited to play locally with Valient
Thorr, Zeke, D.R.I., The Dwarves, Riverboat Gamblers and have done tours with various
band across the coasts. With 2013 being their breakout year, they signed to Self Destructo
Records and released their second album Surrounded By Snakes, which dramatically
shifts their sound from a full on speed rock band to more stoner/doom oriented territory.
Following the release, they did a three week mid/east coast run with Dallas, TX thrashers
The Swingin Dicks, followed by a 40 date solo run of the west coast in support of the
vinyl release, ending the tour by linking with The Hookers for a week and half run across
the Mid West. From there, they were invited to open up locally for UK stoner legends
Orange Goblin in Grand Rapids and for American doom legends Saint Vitus in Detroit.
Now with the conclusion of 2013 and the completion of a US tour with notable Japanese
doom pioneers Church of Misery in the books, 2014 is starting to look up for the Detroit
powerhouse.
“Against The Grain….now THATS what real Motor City Speed Rock sounds like!”
- Valient Himself (Valient Thorr)
”ATG cuffs the punk rock world up side the head AGAIN with another blister on the sun burner o one gut
punch after another of 3 chord crunch. 100's of shows and a deep passion for the craft shines thru on every track Take a deep breath cuz when that stylus hits the black groove yer eardrums are done for piss
whistles. Motor City Speed Rock Indeed!” - Tesco Vee (Touch & Go Records)
“From the same great city that gave us Motown (and of course the MC5 and Iggy and the Stooges) we have the newest saviors of rock and roll, Against The Grain. Or are they the destroyers of rock and roll?” - Metal Mark (The Heavy Metal Time Machine)
